AkiDwA ‘Runs’ to End FGM, Urges Action on International Day of Zero Tolerance

4th February 2025, Galway

AkiDwA, a national network of migrant women living in Ireland has called on individuals, communities, and policymakers to accelerate efforts to end Female Genital Mutilation (FGM). Marking the International Day of Zero Tolerance for FGM 2025, themed Step-up the Pace, the organisation emphasised the urgent need for awareness, survivor support, and stronger policies to protect at-risk girls.

AkiDwA Development Officer Euphomia Edward and Health Officer Bethlehem Gebeyaw stated during the interview that ending FGM requires collective action—through education, awareness, and strong policies, to create a future where no girl or woman is subjected to this practice.

To further amplify this message, AkiDwA is hosting the Run to End FGM on February 6th, 2025, in Dublin City. This powerful community run invites everyone—whether seasoned runners or those who prefer to walk in solidarity—to join in raising awareness and supporting survivors.
