Galway Samaritans Highlights Mental Health Support with ‘Shave a Life’ Campaign

Galway, February 6, 2025 – The importance of mental health support and community involvement took center stage on today’s GOCOM Radio Breakfast Show, as Kirsten Fossum, Deputy Director of Publicity Samaritans Galway joined the discussion to talk about their services and the Shave a Life campaign.

During the interview, the Kirsten emphasised the crucial role they play in providing a listening ear to those in distress. She highlighted the 24/7 helpline as a safe space for people struggling with their mental health, no matter the time of day. Listeners were also encouraged to reach out if they or someone they know is struggling, at 116 123 for free, offering confidential and non-judgmental support.

A key focus of the conversation was Shave a Life, a fundraising initiative aimed at raising awareness and much-needed funds for mental health services. Participants take on the challenge of shaving their heads or beards to spark conversations about mental well-being while supporting Samaritans’ lifesaving work. The initiative encourages individuals and communities to come together to show solidarity and break the stigma surrounding mental health. She urged listeners to take part in Shave a Life, either by signing up for the challenge or donating to support the cause.
