Tenants Rights, Protests, Housing Crisis, and Council Engagement, CATU Tells the Inside Story

In a recent interview on GOCOM Radio’s Breakfast Show, CATU Galway represented by Alice Cunningham and Nell Buckley, shared their ongoing efforts to support tenants and advocate for housing rights across the city. The group has been instrumental in preventing evictions, assisting with rehousing families, and educating communities on tenant rights.

During the discussion, CATU Reps highlighted the Union's involvement in the protest against the closure of Palas Cinema. However, they expressed disappointment at the lack of engagement from Galway City Council regarding the issue.

On the topic of homelessness, CATU addressed far-right narratives blaming migrants and refugees for housing shortages. They emphasised the need for systemic solutions to the housing crisis, rather than scapegoating vulnerable groups.

CATU Galway encourages more people to join their movement to fight for housing justice. They also announced an upcoming community event on February 15th, with further details available on their social media channels.
